DCFS Worker hauling filled 3 Day Bags to the State office

This fall, Crossroads NOLA launched our first 3 Day Bag drive, with a goal of collecting 350 bags for kids in need in our city. We partnered with a number of local churches, and have been excited to see the hundreds of full bags coming in over the past few weeks.

3 Day Bags provide a simple and effective way for churches and individuals to partner with us in caring for vulnerable children in our city. As children are removed from dangerous or negligent situations, they often leave home with only the clothes on their backs. This traumatic situation is sometimes made more difficult when they arrive at a foster home, late in the evening or at night, with no toothbrush, underwear, pajamas, and clothes.

By working with local churches to put together several hundred 3 Day Bags, Crossroads NOLA has been able to help provide needed resources for these children and their foster families. Each bag contains age/gender-appropriate necessities for the first three days of a placement when the court system is determining whether the child should remain in a foster home or return to his or her family.

The 3 Day Bags we collected this fall are being given to social workers at the Department of Children and Family Services in both Jefferson and Orleans Parish to provide for the immediate needs of children being placed in foster care. Staff from both offices have been excited to receive the bags, and thankful for the generosity of our local church partners.
