We love our volunteers! As a local nonprofit, so much of what we do relies on the support of our church partners and the individuals who give their time and energy to volunteer with Crossroads NOLA.
A big part of our work is focused on supporting foster families, and this where our volunteers are able to make a huge difference! Some of the ways our volunteers have helped support our foster families over the past few months include:
- Connect Events: Volunteers engaged kids in games and activities while their parents participated in training during two Connect Events.
- Meal Trains: A number of volunteers supported four foster families by providing meals for them as they took in new placements.
- Resources: Several groups of volunteers organized our resource center as we received numerous donations over the past few months.
- 3 Day Bags: Volunteers from several local churches collected items and put together 3 Day Bags for kids during their first 72 hours in foster care.
Our volunteers also helped us host two amazing Respite Events, giving parents a great opportunity to have a morning off while their kids enjoyed fun activities with friends. In June, we had a Splash Day, featuring water balloons, games, and an awesome water slide. Then in September, we spent the morning at Celebration’s Tubes and Tunnels, and the kids had a blast racing through the slides and tunnels over and over.
We love being able to provide Respite Events like these for our foster families and the kids in their care, and are excited to be working on expanding these services to the north shore soon!
